Quick Answer

The Sherman Oaks restaurant boom along Ventura Boulevard is bringing a wave of new spots within easy walking distance of each other, from Jawny's Philly cheesesteaks and Burger She Wrote's smash burgers to Kreation Organic's cold-pressed juices, with Yama Sushi Marketplace and Hapa Haus's golf simulators on the way. For anyone living in or considering Sherman Oaks, it is turning a familiar stretch of the Boulevard into a genuine walk-to-dinner neighborhood.

My office sits right in the middle of Sherman Oaks, so I spend a lot of time on this stretch of Ventura Boulevard, and the Sherman Oaks restaurant boom happening right now is impossible to miss. Between friends, clients, and my own daily errands, I am watching this change week to week.

If you live here already, you have probably noticed the same thing I have: this is not one new restaurant. It is a genuine cluster of openings, all within a short walk of each other, and it is changing what an ordinary Tuesday night in Sherman Oaks looks like.

What's Newly Opened on Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks?

A handful of spots have opened their doors just in the last couple of months, and they cover a lot of ground.

Jawny's opened its newest location at 14062 Burbank Blvd in August 2026, bringing its build-your-own comfort food menu and authentic Philadelphia flavors, think cheesesteaks, signature wings, and loaded fries, to the neighborhood. It is open late, until 1:00 a.m. every night, which makes it a solid option after a night out.

The Honey Baked Ham Company opened its own outpost this summer too, co-owned by actor Leslie David Baker of The Office and local entrepreneur Tony Vennie. Beyond the glazed hams, it has become a reliable daytime lunch and catering spot on the Boulevard.

Greco's New York Pizzeria returned to the neighborhood in June, taking over the former Santino's space on Woodman Avenue with 28-inch pies and East Coast-style slices available until 2:00 a.m. on weekends, a genuinely late-night option that has been missing from this stretch.

Burger She Wrote, founded by pro skateboarder Don "Nuge" Nguyen, expanded from its original Fairfax location with Oklahoma-style smash burgers made from American Wagyu beef, served with outdoor seating right along Ventura Boulevard.

And for something on the healthier end, Kreation Organic just opened at 14622 Ventura Blvd on August 6, 2026. It is a wellness-focused spot known for cold-pressed juices, smoothies, acai bowls, and organic cafe food, joining its existing locations in Westwood, Studio City, and Beverly Hills.

And in a genuinely notable reopening, Mistral, the nearly four-decade-old French bistro that has long been a Valley classic, is back under new ownership. Restaurateur Jonah Freedman, who also owns Greekman's in Silver Lake, reopened the restaurant alongside business partner and culinary director Josh Migdal on Monday, August 10, after a brief closure to refresh the menu and interior. The new menu stays close to the bistro traditions that made the original a fixture, with the team describing it as an homage to the original Mistral rather than simply an update.

What's Coming Soon to Sherman Oaks?

A few more openings are on the way that will add even more variety to the stretch.

Gloria by La Era, an expansion of the well-known Mexican bakery brand Pastelerías La Era, is making its Los Angeles debut at 13944 Ventura Blvd, taking over the former Gracefully Fed space with a traditional Mexican bakery concept, pan dulce, pastries, and coffee, expected late this summer.

Yama Sushi Marketplace is opening its fourth and largest location at 15300 Ventura Blvd, a massive 7,200-square-foot footprint combining a Japanese market and deli with sashimi-grade fish, handcrafted rolls, and an expanded bar serving Japanese whiskey, gin, and craft sake.

And at the Sherman Oaks Galleria, Hapa Haus is targeting a November 2026 opening, an almost 8,000-square-foot concept blending Hawaiian-inspired dining with a covered outdoor patio and five indoor golf simulator bays, more entertainment venue than restaurant.

A new taqueria is heading to the Boulevard as well. Escuela Taqueria is opening soon at 13830 Ventura Blvd, right next to Pizzana. Based on the menu at their other location, the taco list runs deep, cochinita with pickled red onions and habanero salsa, battered langostino tail with pineapple and salsa verde, crispy skin branzino, SRF American Wagyu skirt steak, and a lobster taco with chipotle crema, alongside vegetarian options like roasted poblano with jack cheese and a mushroom taco with shiitake, bunapi, and enoki. The drink list is just as extensive, with frozen margaritas in guava, peach, and soursop flavors, a Cadillac Margarita, and a mezcal-based Spicy Tamarindo.

Why Walkability Matters So Much Right Now

I think buyers across Los Angeles are prioritizing walkability more than they used to, and it makes sense. Being an Angeleno means spending a lot of time in the car simply because the city is so spread out, so not having to drive for every errand, every dinner, every scoop of ice cream, genuinely changes daily life.

It is not a small thing either. Every listing in the MLS includes a walkability score for a reason: people are actively factoring it into their decisions. A cluster of restaurants and services within walking distance is a real quality-of-life feature, not just a nice-to-have.

What This Means for Life in Sherman Oaks

None of this changes overnight, but it does change how this stretch of Sherman Oaks feels day to day. A neighborhood where you can walk to a genuinely good dinner, grab a smoothie, or catch a late-night slice is a different daily experience than one where every outing means getting in the car.

For anyone who already lives here, this is a good stretch to be paying attention to. For anyone considering the area, it is worth a visit to see what the Boulevard feels like right now, not just what it looked like a year or two ago.
